There’s nothing like exploring a haunted house to get you in the spirit of Halloween. Ready for some hair raising experiences? Just for you, we’ve assembled a list of some of the spookiest haunted houses, ghostly tours, and so much more in the Bay Area. Dare you to go!

The Winchester Mystery House was the residence of Sarah Winchester, the reclusive widow of firearm magnate William Winchester, who thought the mansion was haunted by the ghosts of those killed with Winchester rifles.

This year, the Bay Area’s most iconic house, is celebrating Halloween a with a special All Hallows' Eve that includes the Lost in the House? Tour, an indoor theatrical paranormal investigative adventure, and as an added bonus the family-friendly Jack O’ Lantern Trail through the Victorian gardens. The evening tour is for those brave soles willing to explore the dark halls of the mansion hearing spooky stories of the home's haunted history. Reserve your tickets now as tour capacity is limited and tickets are selling out. Tickets are $69.99 for adults (13 yrs old and up) and $39.99 for children (5-12 yrs old).

The Winchester House presents two additional events of the season never seen before and intended for mature audiences. From their website:

  • Aiden Sinclair’s Necromancy, an intimate evening of seance:  Do spirits linger among us?  Can the departed return?  Join Magus and Apparitionist Aiden Sinclair for an interactive evening of paranormal entertainment.  Summon the spirits this Halloween Season and join us for this limited engagement of haunting encounters.  
  • Aiden Sinclair’s Cartomancy, an interactive evening of Fate and Fortune Telling:  Do you believe in fate?  Can your future and fortune be told by the turn of a tarot card?  Join Aiden Sinclair for an evening of theatrical fortune telling in this one hour interactive and immersive experience.   Fate will be tested and fortunes will be told in this exclusive Winchester Mystery House presentation.

Tickets to the Jack O' Lantern Trail is can be purchased separately and features dozens of hand carved Jack O’ Lanterns displays throughout the Victorian Gardens and the Lost in the House Light Show, a  projection mapped light show that uses the iconic front of the mansion as a canvas.  

Daily tours of the mansion and gardens are available during the day. You will be able to experience the house all on your own and at your own pace. Immerse yourself into Sarah Winchester’s tragic life through audio and visual aids, and learn all about the mystery of the house and the hallways that go nowhere. Tickets are $41.99 for adults (13-64 yrs old), $34.99 for seniors (65+), and $19.99 for children (6-12 yrs old), include access to the Victorian Gardens. You may also purchase tickets to the Victorian Gardens Tours separately: $19.99 adult (13-64 yrs old), $15.99 senior (65+), and $9.99 children (6-12 yrs old).

Celebrate the Halloween season with a variety of fun activities around the estate. At the stables, you can practice your Axe Throwing (18 & older) for $24.99 per reservation for a maximum of 3 participants, but only if you are 18 or older. Midway Games like SkeleballKnockdown, and High-Striker are open during all nights of the Halloween season.

Dead Time Dreams Haunted Attractions are not for the faint of heart! This year Dead Time Dreams are featuring their first ever open air immersive haunted attraction, The Meat Factory. Look out for monsters! They might be following you! And you won't get away!

Before and after the attraction, you will be entertained by a “bigger and better” Midway of Terror. The attractions are intended to be immersive, as though you are experiencing the real thing. Although there is no age limit, kids under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. General admission is $20 and VIP tickets (Fast Pass) are $30. Purchase tickets at the door. Parking is free.

The Napa City Ghosts and Legends Walking Tour promises a memorable experience. It’s your chance to walk with the ghosts of Napa City, and learn a little bit about the history of the area like you never have before. Tickets are $25. Did you know about Sonoma's dark past?! You can explore some of its history on the Sonoma Plaza Ghost Walking Tour, talk to the Native American Spirits who linger near the Mission, or stand on the very ground of a bank robbery gone wrong with its ensuing shoot out. Tickets are $25.

The Haunted Mortuary - A Paranormal Investigation

New! Take part in this historic evening! The Haunted Mortuary is intended to be a paranormal investigation of the 1932 Mortuary that was in service for 80 or so years. From the website: "Are you brave enough to join us in investigating a location that was likely an active portal (and maybe still is!) to the afterlife? Are your ready to hear what the dead have to say? Don’t miss this unique event in the Bay Area, it’s not often such a location becomes available for a paranormal investigation! We have an additional option of a Seance at the end of the investigation led by 2 Mediums. We also have a Paranormal Investigation 101 mini class for newcomers who are interested in learning how to capture their own evidence and in the correct way. This event will be led by seasoned paranormal investigators who have worked in the field for decades and have had many paranormal experiences. It’s not for the faint of heart!"

Children under the age of 12 will not be admitted. Tickets are $95.

Halloween Haunt

Halloween Haunt at California’s Great America is back, and features scary mazes, spooky shows and Halloween-themed scare zones packed with hordes of monsters at every turn. Terror-inducing classics like Killer Clown Town, Tooth Fairy and Backwoods also make their return in all their horrifying glory. Check out the other Halloween activities, such as circus acts, live music, festive lights and haunting décor. Tickets start at $39.99.

For 2021, the Pirates of Emerson Haunted Theme Park is a back to being a WALK THRU event. The attraction is billed as "where your worst nightmares become real. As you enter the Adventure, you enter a world of suspense and terror. The only thing on your mind will be your survival." Children are allowed, but the attraction might not be suitable for all.

General admission starts at $36.50. You must purchase tickets online. Tickets are not sold at the event.
