The holiday season always seems to begin with the Christmas tree. Families are already heading out to find the perfect one—but this year, you can turn the search into a real outing. Several Bay Area farms let you cut your own tree, giving you the chance to enjoy the fresh air, the smell of pine, and a few quiet moments in nature before the busyness of the season sets in.
Below, you’ll find my roundup of the best Christmas tree farms in Silicon Valley. Many offer saws on-site and seasonal treats like cider or hot chocolate. Some even have bonfires, picnic spots, or holiday train rides. Dress warmly, bring boots, and embrace the mud—it’s all part of the fun.
Looking for more holiday outings? Don’t miss my Silicon Valley's Dazzling Holiday Light Displays blog and the Events page for everything happening this season.
Hours, pricing and availability may change — always check the farm’s website or Facebook page before you go.
